World's First Phone With a 200 Megapixel Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a big upgrade over its predecessor, with 30% better performance from the modified Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2 processor and a 200-megapixel camera sensor.

It has an excellent display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a hefty battery and support for 125 W charging, among other features. Its best feature, though, is a 200-megapixel main camera.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung has added a 200-megapixel camera to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, marking a significant step up from last year's 108-megapixel model. While the increase in megapixels is obvious, how much it truly adds to the image quality of a smartphone remains an open question.

The new camera on the S23 Ultra isn't just about resolution - it's also designed to improve low light performance and color reproduction, according to Samsung. That's thanks to an "Adaptive Pixel" sensor that combines 16 individual pixels into one larger pixel.

Using AI algorithms, the Galaxy S23 Ultra can also enhance color tone and details in photos taken during low-light situations. It also features a new Super Quad Pixel autofocus system that takes advantage of all 200 million pixels on the sensor to keep the subject in focus.

As you'd expect from a phone with such a big main camera, the Galaxy S23 Ultra also packs in a bunch of other sensors. A 12-megapixel ultra-wide and two dedicated telephoto lenses join the primary sensor.

Like last year, the Ultra's rear camera array is stacked in a vertical column instead of blending into the side frame, which should improve visibility for photographers. It also features a dual f/1.7 lens, which should be helpful in low-light conditions.

Aside from the big primary camera, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will also have a 12MP front-facing camera with an f/1.9 aperture. The rear panel is made from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which should offer good durability and help protect the Galaxy S23 Ultra's screen.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra measures 6.4 x 3.1 x 0.35 inches and weighs 8.3 ounces. It's a similar size and weight to last year's Galaxy S22 Ultra, although it's slightly more premium in terms of design.

It's also available in four colors: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender, with pre-orders beginning today and shipping on February 17. Samsung is offering free storage upgrades for those who pre-order the Ultra, as well as a $100 credit when they use that credit to purchase additional products from Samsung.

In addition to the main camera, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a 16MP selfie camera and a 10MP front-facing camera for video calls. It will also have a USB-C port and a silo for the S Pen.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The Edge 30 Ultra, or X30 Pro in some markets, is the world's first phone to ship with a 200-megapixel camera. It's available now internationally, and it's a pretty good choice if you're looking for a premium Android phone with a high-end sensor that won't break the bank.

In terms of performance, the Edge 30 Ultra packs a lot for its EUR900 price tag. It sports a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, an 8+ Gen1 processor, 12GB of RAM, a 4,612mAh battery with 125W wired fast charging, and 50W wireless charging.

It also has a massive 60MP selfie camera, IP52 water resistance rating, and 5G connectivity. All this for a competitive price that puts the Edge 30 Ultra right in the midst of the flagship range.

But the best thing about the Edge 30 Ultra is the design - it's one of the most beautiful smartphones you can buy, with curves, matte paint, and a big camera hump that makes it easy to hold on to. It's one of the sexiest phones of the year, and I can't wait to get my hands on it in person.

As for the cameras, they're very good, although the 200-megapixel sensor isn't a perfect match for other top-end devices in this category (although it does seem to be better than the ones on the Pixel 7 and OnePlus 10T). The pictures are impressive, but we still found that the ISOCELL HP1 sensor was prone to some minor issues in low light conditions.

On the other hand, the photos are very detailed and well-lit, and you can use them to great effect in the gallery and in video. Despite some of the megapixels, however, the camera does lack image stabilization, so you'll need to be careful taking photos with it.

On the plus side, the camera does have a few nice features, such as a f/1.8 aperture and a laser autofocus that's very accurate. It also has a lot of settings, including Ultra Res mode and a pro mode. It even has a 360-degree panorama option.

Xiaomi 12T

In the smartphone camera megapixel race, the Xiaomi 12T Pro has snatched up the top spot. With a 1/1.22-inch Samsung-made sensor, the phone's 200-megapixel primary camera is a world first.

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is a powerful smartphone, with a top-of-the-line processor, a top-notch display, and one of the fastest mobile batteries on the market. Moreover, it's a good value for money.

To start with, it comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a resolution of 1220p+. It also has an adaptive refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection.

It also has a triple camera at the back, with a 2MP macro camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 108-megapixel main sensor. The front-facing camera has a 20-megapixel resolution, which works as a selfie camera.

On the inside, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8X chipset, accompanied by LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The processor is paired with the company's own AI imaging algorithms, which are capable of delivering "pro-grade" imagery.

In addition, the Xiaomi 12T Pro also features a 200-megapixel camera that's able to take impressive photos. The phone's AI software can quickly and accurately focus on a subject, making it a great option for those looking to shoot large-scale photos in a variety of light conditions.

As a bonus, the phone offers 120W fast charging that's able to fully recharge it in 19 minutes or less. This is a big deal in today's busy society where we often have to rush out the door without much time to spare.

Besides the impressive cameras, the Xiaomi 12T Pro also boasts a massive 5000mAh battery that can be charged to full power in less than 30 minutes. You'll also get a charger and silicone case in the box, which is always a nice touch.

On the software side, the Xiaomi 12T Pro is running on MIUI 13 based on Android 12. The UI on the phone is quick and responsive, with many preinstalled apps that can be uninstalled. There's also the ability to customize the home screen and control centre by swiping down from the right.

Moto X30 Pro

During this year's smartphone launch cycle, Motorola has released an impressive streak of smartphones that includes the first foldable phone from the company and the world's first phone with a 200-megapixel camera. Now, the Lenovo-owned brand has unveiled a new flagship smartphone that has been officially announced as the Moto X30 Pro.

The X30 Pro will feature the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor with a 1/1.22′′ sensor size and a 2.56-micron pixel size that can opt to use individual 0.64 micro pixels or group 4 or 16 pixels into a larger pixel, which can be used for up to 200-megapixel photos or video capture at 8K resolution. Alongside this, there will also be a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens for 117 degree wide-angle panoramic shots and a 12MP telephoto lens that can be used to capture 2x optical zoom without losing quality.

On top of this, the Moto X30 Pro will run on the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 730 graphics. It will have a 6.67′′ OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, support for HDR10+ and a 1500 Hz touch sampling rate. It will be powered by a 4,500 mAh battery with 125W fast wired charging and Android 12 out of the box.

With this new device, Motorola is looking to compete with the likes of the Galaxy S23 and iPhone X. Its main selling point is its dual-lens camera system at the back, which features a triple setup with a 200-megapixel main lens and a 12MP telephoto and a 50-megapixel selfie camera.

In addition to that, the X30 Pro will have a 6.67′′ OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. It will also be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and come in three RAM/Storage configurations: 8GB/128GB, 12GB/256GB, or 12GB/512GB.

The Moto X30 Pro will also be available in Ink Rhyme Black and Clear Frost White colorways. It will be 8.39mm thick and 197 grams in weight. The Moto X30 Pro will be priced at CNY 3,699 for the 8GB/128GB variant and CNY 4,499 for the 12GB/512GB option.
